Inauguration Day

Despite the darkness,
the birds still sing the day
into being. A trill here, an aria
there, a chit chat between chachalacas.

Cows graze the emerald field
below. Avocados, the size of baseballs,
grow on trees, and sweet tiny bananas
peek out behind giant palm fronds.

All this, just outside my window.

 Mother earth still thrives, despite
any human drama unfolding.

Step outside.
Take a breath.

It’s going to be ok.
